Prof. Kun-Ho Yoon

The Catholic University of Korea, Seoul St. Mary's Hospital, Korea
Reason: In recognition of his outstanding and long scientific contributions in the Asian diabetes societies, especially, he is a core member organizing AIBIS, which one of the fruitful meetings in Asia, and served as an executive council member of the WPR, and he has become the chairman of KDA this year. In addition, his basic sciences greatly enhanced diabetes treatment technology such like stem cell biology and islet transplantation. His studies were published in many high-impact journals and highly cited. He trained and nurtured many young scientists who are now becoming leaders in the field. He has been demonstrating great leadership in science, education and many important social activities.

The Masato Kasuga Award for Outstanding Scientific Achievement

Dr. Yusuke Seino

Dept. Endocrinology and Metabolism, Fujita Health University School of Medicine, Japan
Reason: In recognition of his outstanding scientific achievements in the roles of GIP, among which the relationship between glucagon and beta-cell derived GIP, such like the enhancement of GIP secretion in proglucagon gene-deficient mice, and also GIP secretion associated with fat-rich diet in knockout model mice and clinical works, he greatly enhanced our understanding of GIP. He also supervised many young researchers, who successfully published their papers in respected journals.

The Xiaoren Pan Distinguished Research Award for Epidemiology of Diabetes in Asia

Prof. Ronald Ma

Endocrinology and Diabetes Department of Medicine and Therapeutics, Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong
Reason: In recognition of his outstanding scientific achievements in epidemiological studies, among which setting up a multicenter biobanks enhancing the Hong Kong Diabetes Register and a cohort of women with gestational diabetes, which resulted in the discovery of genetic regulation of diabetic complications, notably diabetic kidney disease, highly relevant to Asian population. He also serves as organizing committee members including AASD, IDEG and IDF. His numerous findings in epidemiology of diabetes were published in many quality journals. Furthermore, He has also contributed to diabetes advocacy work, epidemiology training, and the AASD-EASD clinical research course.
